JULY 4th - No Fireworks...NO SUN

So we had a different 4th of July celebration this year. Being in the desert we had our first experience of NO FIREWORKS! The only kind they sell here are the kind that blow confetti when you pull the string....LAME-O!!! And even heading out of town we didn't get the experience...why???

TWO REASONS - brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and sleep!

San Diego this weekend was fun - COLD...but fun. We stayed in Del Mar. It's a great location because it is about 15 minutes from a ton of beaches. Plus our favorite hotel is there(we didn't get to stay in it this time but we still had a great hotel).

Fourth of July at the Beach was a MAD HOUSE - people had been camping out there for the entire weekend to have a spot on the fourth. There was absolutely NO PARKING. None the less, we ended up at La Jolla beach - I love that beach! Found a great place to sit and then sat covered with towels, coats, and blankets the entire day. Well, I did...the kids managed better me. But the clouds were BLACK! And the temperature was 61 degrees at the coast.

Monday we took the kids to the Wild Animal Park....they were bored within the first 30 minutes. Brent fell asleep on the Safari Ride and within 2 hours we were gone! So much for enjoying wild animals.

Though we didn't get the sun we hoped for, and the fireworks show we were dying to see(cuz it was too cold at the beach to wait another five hours for the show), and we all lamed out at the Wild Animal Park, we did get some great fun swimming at the hotel, and good company with the Swensons, and of course family time.

I'd chalk it up to a successful weekend...but a major NOTE TO SELF....never go to San Diego over another Holiday weekend!!

Marriot Del Mar - nice rooms, great pool, and fantastic gym!!

La Jolla Beach - has bathrooms readily accessible, a playground for the kids, and a lot of beach area. Fantastic beach for families

Wild Animal Park - has so much to offer a visitor. Lots of animals, play areas, and they are one of the leaders in bringing animals out of extinction. It really is a fantastic park....our kids just don't get it, I guess :)
All smiles 10 minutes in to the park...
beautiful scenery...
20 minutes into the tour and Brian and Madelyn are bored out of their minds. Brent is asleep...
and Marcus is fighting wiggles...and boredom....

You can't win 'em all! But we had a good time none the less :)

REMEMBER.....no San Diego trips over the holiday weekends!!
